Greg has been the Executive Vice President at Berkley Asset Protection Underwriting Managers, LLC. since its inception in April of 2008. This group specializes in the niche underwriting of Fine Arts, Jewelers Block and Specie Risks. 

Greg began his career in 1986 as a loss control surveyor and loss adjuster in the areas of Fine Art, Jewelers Block and Specie. He launched his first adjusting firm in 1990 which he sold to Cunningham Lindsey International. During his tenure there, Greg was the director of the Fine Art and Jewelry Division for the United States operation. In 2004, Greg left Cunningham Lindsey International to start a new company called G.J. Smith & Associates Inc., continuing to specialize in Fine Art, Jewelers Block, Specie, and Entertainment claims adjusting and loss control surveys. Greg has handled cases all over the United States and Internationally.

Over the years, he has been a repeated guest lecturer at NYU’s appraisal course, the American Associations of Museums, Appraisers Association of America, International Foundation of Art Research, Inland Marine Underwriters Association, New York Bar Association, Mid Atlantic Museum Association and several smaller organizations. He continues to be very involved in the fields that Berkley underwrites and has developed strong relationships with law enforcement agencies (NYPD, FBI) and experts in the field (restorers, appraisers, diamond dealers, auction galleries, diamond grading houses, and alarm companies).
